So, two weeks ago we had a training at the Pittsburgh Center for Complementary Health and Healing which now opens up the schedule for us to accommodate all of the women and couples in Pittsburgh who are looking to boost their fertility naturally with a holistic approach using Fertility Massage. This is not to say that Fertility Massage is only for couples who are trying to conceive on their own, many of the women who we work with are also using ART, Assisted Reproductive Technology, and using Fertility Massage to compliment an IUI, or IVF procedure.
For the past 5 years I have been one of the only therapists in Pittsburgh who has specialized in this amazing work. However, now I am also an Instructor of Fertility Massage, and am able to mentor and certify other massage therapists in this rewarding path of becoming Fertility Massage Specialists. This work goes far beyond just learning how to do a massage protocol; it is really about supporting women, men and couples on the journey of creating life. It is about helping them to take back their body’s innate wisdom, come back to balance, reduce stress, and re-connect. One of our hopes is to keep this as sacred and healthy of a process as possible for couples today who face more challenges than ever.
After the training I had a few questions for the four new Fertility Massage Specialists at the Pittsburgh Center for Complementary Health and Healing, and here is what they had to say when I questioned them about the process:
Nikki: “Why is the fertility work beneficial for women trying to get pregnant?”
Rebecca: “Fertility work is great for women trying to get pregnant because it brings you back in touch with your body by listening to what it really needs. Like training for a sport there are great benefits to helping your body get to its best place for nurturing life!”
Nikki: “What surprised you about what women go through during the fertility process?”
Kate: “I was surprised about all the steps that some women have to go through, from the dye tests to the IUI's to all of the shots included with the IVF. The despondency that can then occur between her and husband, and her and her body. I really look forward to bringing her awareness back to her body so she hasa sense of empowerment in the whole process.”
Nikki: “What difference do you think the fertility work could make in the lives of couples going through a challenging time with getting pregnant?”
Angie: “This treatment can help bring couples back into a place of peace and harmony with their bodies. It's a wonderful way to recover the vital intimacy so often lost in the struggle to conceive.”
Nikki: “Who do you think can benefit from this work?”
Beth: “The most incredible thing about the fertility session, is that it can benefit so many people! The obvious is that women who are trying to conceive will mostly be scheduled for this session. But fertility massage is about balancing the body physically and emotionally. Circulation is addressed along with our digestive system, hormonal system, our hips and pelvis, and much more. It feels whole in every way, so in that regard everyone who would like to be more balanced could benefit from this work!”
